Liverpool
Liverpool are in discussions with a former Everton player about a potential move to Anfield.
Liverpool have reportedly begun discussions with the representative of Ademola Lookman, a standout Serie A forward who has had an outstanding 2024.
Despite having a solid attacking group that includes Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz, Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, seems determined to strengthen the attacking depth in Arne Slot’s squad. A former Everton player might now be a target for Liverpool.
Liverpool in Discussions with Lookman’s Agent
As per Sacha Tavolieri via *SkySport.ch*, Liverpool have made contact with Ademola Lookman’s agent, as the player is expected to leave Atalanta soon.
The Italian club is open to negotiating a transfer for the 27-year-old, who is reportedly eager to return to English football after spending over two years in Serie A.
Atalanta, who are currently top of the league, has set a minimum asking price of €50m (£41.3m) for Lookman. The club recognizes that now may be the ideal time to sell and secure the highest possible fee for the sought-after forward.
Lookman Could Bolster Liverpool’s Attack
Lookman had an impressive 2023/24 season, scoring 17 goals for Atalanta, including a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. He has continued this form into the current season, netting 11 goals in 19 matches.
Liverpool scouts reportedly kept an eye on the Nigeria international during the autumn, and the club was linked with him in the summer transfer window, indicating he has been on their radar for a while.
Primarily used as a second striker or center-forward, Lookman’s advanced statistics—such as assists, shot-creating actions, progressive carries, successful dribbles, and non-penalty goals—rank him among the top players in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024 (FBref).
While his past at Everton may raise doubts about a move to Anfield, his less-than-remarkable period there (four goals in 48 appearances) could make a transfer to Liverpool less controversial, especially given his recent success in Italy.
Although Liverpool may focus on addressing defensive injuries in the January transfer window, Lookman’s skill and form make him an appealing option to further strengthen their already strong attacking lineup.
