Pep Guardiola responds to ‘getting sacked in the morning’ chants from Leyton Orient fans as Man City forced to come from behind to win FA Cup clash
In an exciting FA Cup fourth-round clash, Manchester City narrowly avoided an upset, securing a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient. The third-tier team took an unexpected lead in the 16th minute when Jamie Donley’s remarkable long-range shot led to an own goal off City’s goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega. City equalized in the 56th minute with a deflected shot from Rico Lewis, and the comeback was completed in the 79th minute when substitute Kevin De Bruyne netted the winning goal.
Throughout the match, Leyton Orient fans mocked City manager Pep Guardiola with chants of “sacked in the morning.” In reply, Guardiola, who has guided Manchester City to six Premier League titles since his arrival in 2016, raised six fingers at the crowd, representing each of his league victories.
After the match, Guardiola addressed the chants, saying, “I didn’t expect that at Anfield. I didn’t expect it from the people from Liverpool but it’s fine. It’s part of the game, and I understand completely.”
Despite the tough encounter, Guardiola commended both teams and highlighted the distinctive atmosphere of the FA Cup. He praised Leyton Orient’s brave performance, emphasizing that such games underscore the unpredictable and exciting nature of cup football.
Manchester City progresses to the next stage of the FA Cup, while Leyton Orient exits the competition with pride after a strong display against the Premier League champions.
