Liverpool supporters have criticized a PSG player for being “arrogant” after his comments following their team’s 1-0 win in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

The Reds claimed an unexpected victory in Paris thanks to Harvey Elliott’s late goal, which was their only shot on target. On the other hand, PSG had control offensively, with 27 shots, ten of which were on target. As Liverpool now prepares for the second leg at Anfield on March 11, they aim to protect and possibly increase their lead. The atmosphere at Anfield has often been crucial in such matches, especially when Liverpool staged a remarkable 4-0 comeback against Barcelona in 2019 after a 3-0 first-leg deficit.

Despite the loss, PSG midfielder Vitinha, 25, remains optimistic about his team’s chances of bouncing back. Speaking to Canal+, he recognized the challenge but was confident PSG could respond.

“It was difficult. Everyone saw it. Football is like that; it’s tough to play against a team like this. Their only shot… I don’t know. It’s tough, but now it’s our turn to show what kind of team we are. We haven’t lost in a while, and now we need to demonstrate our character and strength. We’re going to play a great game, score, and qualify. I’m sure of it.”

While PSG fans may admire Vitinha’s confidence, Liverpool fans were less impressed. One supporter commented, “The arrogance is getting out of control just because you had possession and a few shots on target. The best you’ll get at Anfield is a draw.”

Another challenged PSG: “Come and win at Anfield—let’s see.”

A third dismissed Vitinha’s confidence: “Win at Anfield? Keep dreaming.”

A fourth remarked: “Liverpool will be a different animal at Anfield. We’ve heard this kind of arrogance from players like Vitinha countless times before.”
