Enzo Maresca cautions Chelsea player about falling short of the expected goal tally.

Enzo Maresca has praised Pedro Neto’s impact but emphasized the need for the Chelsea winger to raise his goal output, highlighting an expectation of 10 Premier League goals from players in wide positions.

Chelsea are preparing to host Everton at Stamford Bridge this Saturday in a crucial match, as they aim to maintain their place in the race for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification. The team currently sits sixth in the table, trailing third-place Manchester City by four points.

In their most recent fixture, Chelsea seemed on course to drop vital points against Fulham, but Tyrique George leveled the score late before Pedro Neto netted a stoppage-time winner, securing a 2-1 victory.

Since joining Chelsea from Wolves in a £51 million deal last summer, Neto has performed well overall but has only scored four league goals, which falls short of Maresca’s requirements.

“Pedro has been important for us, especially when Nico Jackson was unavailable,” Maresca said. “But I expect our wingers to contribute more goals—about 10 each by the season’s end, given the chances they get in matches.”

Noni Madueke has come the closest to reaching that figure with seven league goals, although he has only scored twice since the festive period. Neto isn’t the only wide player struggling to finish, with Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk also not meeting scoring expectations.

Though Neto may not be in the starting XI against Everton, Maresca acknowledged the winger hasn’t consistently played in his preferred role. “He’s more effective on the right, but at times we’ve had to play him on the left. Still, he’s adapting well.”

Maresca also praised the competitive dynamic among the wingers, including Madueke and Tyrique George, saying their consistent efforts in training are driving each other to improve.
