Jude Bellingham’s Tunnel Outburst During Copa del Rey Final

TV cameras captured Jude Bellingham’s reaction during half-time of Real Madrid’s 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday night. Jules Koundé’s extra-time goal clinched the win for Barcelona at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville. While emotions ran high after the match, it’s clear that tensions had been building from the early moments of the game.

Antonio Rüdiger now faces significant disciplinary action for throwing an ice cube at referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, but he was not the only player expressing frustration with the referees. The treatment of referees by Los Blancos was a key talking point leading up to the final, especially after De Burgos Bengoetxea was seen tearful during the officials’ pre-match press conference on Friday.

There were even rumors suggesting that, due to the management’s belief that referees were biased against them, Real Madrid might not participate in the final. Bellingham’s half-time outburst further emphasizes the ongoing tension.

What Jude Bellingham Said in the Tunnel at Half-time

The English midfielder was also displeased with the officiating.

As the players made their way down the tunnel for the break, Bellingham was seen by cameras criticizing De Burgos Bengoetxea and his team. He remarked: “Make him understand, everything is going their [Barcelona’s] way, everything 50-50 goes their way.”

In an ironic twist, it was Rudiger who tried to calm down the 21-year-old. However, by the end of the match, both players found themselves involved in controversy. Rudiger is facing consequences for his ice-throwing incident, while Bellingham was sent off post-match for displaying aggression towards the officials.

According to the Metro, the referee’s post-match report stated: “In the 120th minute, player (22) Rüdiger, Antonio, was sent off for the following reason: For throwing an object from the technical area, which missed me. After being shown the red card, he had to be restrained by several members of the coaching staff, displaying an aggressive attitude.

“In the 120th minute, player (17) Vazquez Iglesias, Lucas, was sent off for the following reason: For protesting one of our decisions, entering the field of play for several meters, making gestures of disagreement. In the 999th minute, player (5) Bellingham, Jude Victor William, was sent off for the following reason: After the end of the match, he approached our position in an aggressive attitude, having to be restrained by his teammates.”

In the aftermath of the match, it seems Real Madrid will end their 2024/25 season without any trophies to show for it. After being knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal and losing the Copa del Rey to Barcelona, they are now facing the prospect of missing out on La Liga, trailing by four points with five games remaining.
