Man United’s owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe names the only striker Ruben Amorim told him to sign at all costs this summer.
Manchester United are reportedly focusing on signing a new centre-forward, with ESPN reporting that Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has emerged as manager Ruben Amorim’s primary transfer target. Although club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe personally favors either Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres, he has opted to fully support Amorim’s decision, recognizing the manager’s determination to secure Delap’s arrival.
United have had difficulty scoring this season, recording only 37 goals in 31 Premier League matches, which has highlighted the pressing need for a consistent striker. Delap, who joined Ipswich from Manchester City for £20 million last summer, has caught attention by scoring 12 league goals. If Ipswich are relegated, a £40 million release clause in Delap’s contract would come into effect, making him available at that price.
While Manchester City hold a buy-back clause for the same fee, they are reportedly not planning to use it, especially after tying Erling Haaland to a long-term deal. However, City would still gain from a 20 percent profit clause if Ipswich were to sell Delap.
Due to financial limitations this summer, United are focusing on players who offer both value and upside, with Delap now ahead of more established options like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old striker has stood out in the Premier League this season, contributing 12 goals and two assists in 30 games. His classic forward attributes and impressive breakout campaign have led United to believe he is the ideal addition for their offensive overhaul.
