Pep Guardiola has shared a health update on Ederson, Erling Haaland, and Rodri ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at Wembley this weekend.

Ederson remains uncertain for Sunday’s match, having missed City’s last two games. The Brazilian goalkeeper had to leave the field during the 5-2 win against Crystal Palace earlier this month and has not played since.

During his absence, Stefan Ortega Moreno has filled in capably, guarding the net in wins over both Everton and Aston Villa. Ortega is still a leading option to start at Wembley, marking City’s seventh FA Cup semi-final in a row.

When asked about Ederson’s chances of being available for the Forest match, Guardiola responded, “We’ll see. Eddie has started to train a bit with the team, but I’m not sure if he’ll be ready in time. Hopefully, he’ll be back for the next game.”

Guardiola also confirmed there were no fresh fitness issues following the team’s recent thrilling win against Aston Villa, which is welcome news as City continue to compete on multiple fronts this season.

Discussing Rodri, Guardiola shared an update on the midfielder, who has been sidelined since September with a knee issue.

The City manager stated that the Ballon d’Or nominee is training hard and is keen to play again, but a return will require medical approval.

“Rodri wants to play,” said Guardiola. “He’s doing well in every training session, but ultimately the doctors have to tell me, ‘Pep, you have the green light to use him.’ Until then, we have to wait.”

The coach made it clear he will rely on the medical team’s judgment before making any decisions on Rodri’s return to action.

Regarding Erling Haaland, Guardiola offered a more upbeat update. He explained that the striker is making gradual progress from an ankle problem, although he hasn’t yet resumed full training with the team.

“He feels better,” said Guardiola. “But this type of injury isn’t comfortable, especially with ankle twists and tape. He’s a big guy, so it’s not easy. He’s getting better step by step, but there’s still no confirmed date for his return.”
