Real Madrid targeting Rodri as midfield priority following Champions League exit

Real Madrid has redirected its attention toward strengthening the midfield as preparations begin for the 2025/26 season after their exit from the Champions League. As reported by *Cadena SER*, the primary target for this position is Manchester City’s Rodri, considered the perfect successor to fill the gap left by Toni Kroos.

With their Champions League journey over, Real Madrid now has a more accurate assessment of its financial outlook, factoring in expected income and player bonus commitments. The club is also anticipating a substantial financial boost from the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which should allow more flexibility in the transfer market.

Rodri, a 28-year-old Spanish international and “Ballon d’Or” hopeful, is regarded as the “dream signing” by the club. Although he plays a crucial role for Manchester City and is under contract until 2027, Real Madrid believes a transfer might be possible, especially with the influence of Dani Carvajal, a close friend from the Spanish national team.

Still, the club remains mindful of Rodri’s current recovery from a significant knee injury, which could affect his form upon return. While he remains the top target, Real Madrid is also looking into other options like Martin Zubimendi. That said, internal sources are uncertain about Zubimendi’s fit, and reports suggest Arsenal is advancing in talks with the Real Sociedad star.

As planning for next season progresses, Real Madrid continues to prioritize midfield reinforcements, with Rodri standing out as the headline signing they aspire to secure at the Santiago Bernabéu.
