BREAKING: Athletic Bilbao Star Hails Bruno Fernandes After Europa League Display
Following Manchester United’s dominant 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final at San Mamés, unexpected praise came from a Bilbao player. Speaking under anonymity after the match, the player expressed deep respect for United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, who played a crucial role in dismantling the Spanish team.
“He completely took control of the game,” the player confessed. “After ten minutes, I knew we were done. He was unstoppable. What he did out there was next level. Honestly, I’d leave Bilbao tomorrow if it meant playing alongside him at Manchester United. There aren’t many players like him—I’d rather play with him than against him.”
Fernandes was pivotal to United’s superiority. After Casemiro netted the opener in the 30th minute, Fernandes converted a penalty after Dani Vivian received a red card for fouling Rasmus Højlund. He then scored again before halftime with a precise finish from Manuel Ugarte’s assist. His display not only reinforced United’s lead but also set a new benchmark for goals and contributions in Europa League knockout stages.
Manager Ruben Amorim applauded Fernandes, saying, “When we need a spark, he delivers. He leads, scores, and drives the team forward. He’s the ideal captain, and we must support him in winning trophies.”
Manchester United remain the sole unbeaten team in European competitions this season and are strong favorites to progress to the Europa League final, scheduled to take place at San Mamés.
Supporters are already hailing Fernandes’ performance, with one commenting, “He was unreal today—we’re partying at Old Trafford!”
The return leg is set for May 8 at Old Trafford, where United will look to secure their place in the final and continue their European journey.
