Liverpool secures £60m signing of Bayer Leverkusen star, who is set to don iconic squad number.
**Florian Wirtz Attracting Intense Transfer Attention as Liverpool Take the Lead**
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has become one of the hottest prospects in European football, drawing major interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old German international has delivered an exceptional campaign, tallying 16 goals and 15 assists in 44 matches in all competitions for the Bundesliga title holders.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly already in talks with Wirtz, aiming to convince him to join the Premier League this summer.
**Liverpool Ahead as Bayern Struggle Financially**
Though Bayern Munich are eager to land Wirtz, reports suggest they face financial hurdles. As noted by Anfield Watch, the German champions may need to sell multiple players—possibly including Kingsley Coman or Sacha Boey—to meet Wirtz’s projected €150 million valuation.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are in a more secure financial state and wouldn’t require outgoing transfers to fund a move for the attacking midfielder, providing a clear advantage in talks.
Speaking to Anfield Watch, Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy said, “There are plenty of reasons for Wirtz to go to Bayern, but the financial reality could block that move.
Liverpool, on the other hand, could likely make it happen without needing to make any sales—so yes, that gives them an advantage.”
**Slot Targeting a Creative Midfield Asset**
Liverpool have approached recent transfer windows cautiously, with Federico Chiesa their only significant addition last summer—acquired through a bargain deal. Despite this careful approach, Arne Slot has led the squad through a successful season.
Signing Wirtz would represent a major enhancement to Liverpool’s midfield options.
His knack for both scoring and assisting would give Slot the creative spark currently absent outside of Mohamed Salah, potentially making Wirtz a game-changing a
cquisition for the club.
