Manchester United Complete Two Signings as South American Striker Joins Amid Mbeumo Setback
Manchester United have completed two additions and are close to announcing a third as part of their efforts this summer to strengthen both the main squad and the academy.
The Red Devils have finalized their first major signing, bringing in Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a deal worth £62.5 million.
Talks are still underway with Brentford regarding Bryan Mbeumo, who remains a priority target, as head coach Ruben Amorim looks at alternative forward options as well.
However, the focus isn’t solely on senior players — United are also building for the long term. Three prospects are set to be officially added soon.
One of them is Diego Leon, a teenage left-back from Cerro Porteño. Though the agreement was reached in January, the move had to wait until Leon celebrated his 18th birthday in April. The Paraguayan has completed his medical checks, and his formal presentation is expected at the beginning of next month. He is set to sign a five-year agreement, with an initial fee of £3.2 million that could increase to £7 million with potential bonuses.
United have also brought in 18-year-old French forward Enzo Kana-Biyik from Le Havre. He will arrive on a free transfer once his existing deal concludes.
The third recruit is Harley Emsden-James, a young center-back from Southampton. His switch will be confirmed once his contract finishes at the end of the month. Estimated at around £1 million in training compensation, Southampton will also be entitled to 20% of any future sale. Emsden-James, who has played for England at U15 level, will initially join the U18 side next season and is regarded as a top talent with a clear route to
the senior team.
