Arsène Wenger has stated that the most valuable signing he made during his time at Arsenal was a £3.5 million deal, and it wasn’t Thierry Henry. Despite overseeing numerous significant transfers during his 22 years with the club, Wenger singled out Patrick Vieira’s signing as the most important. It was a move that helped him gain the trust of the fans. He remembered how, early in his tenure, critics doubted his decisions, particularly his choice of Vieira, who had not thrived at AC Milan before coming to Arsenal. However, Vieira quickly established himself as a central figure in the team, winning three league titles and captaining the renowned Invincibles.

In an interview on Mo Farah’s YouTube channel, Wenger pointed out that while there were many successful signings during his time at Arsenal, Vieira’s arrival played a crucial role in establishing his authority, especially with those who doubted him. He also acknowledged other key players such as Robin van Persie and Cesc Fàbregas, who contributed greatly to the club but often went unnoticed.

In other developments, Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool swiftly responded to Arsenal fans following their 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield, reminding them that Arsenal is closer to Liverpool’s level than they realize, but also holding one party responsible for the situation.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola showed empathy for Mikel Arteta over a controversial penalty awarded against Arsenal, describing the decision by referee Anthony Taylor as overly harsh. Lastly, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers criticized both Arteta and Arsenal fans, dismissing their remarks about his potential move to the club, given his previous Premier League title win with Leicester in 2015.

Additionally, the Football Association issued a statement about a penalty awarded to Brighton against Arsenal for a foul on Joao Pedro, with Webb taking action against referee Taylor for what was described as an astonishing decision.
