Second club comes from out of nowhere to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold and it’s bad news for Liverpool
Another major club has entered the competition to sign Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as his contract nears its expiration this summer.
A key storyline during Arne Slot’s tenure as Liverpool manager has centered on the future of Alexander-Arnold, with the England international’s deal set to run out at the end of the current season.
Real Madrid had been heavily linked with the defender, with multiple reports suggesting that Alexander-Arnold had already made up his mind to join the Spanish giants in the summer.
However, Bayern Munich has now shown interest in the 26-year-old, as reported by German outlet Kicker. They are keeping a close eye on his situation and are considering making an approach if he becomes available.
Bayern views Alexander-Arnold as a potential target, especially if Joshua Kimmich decides to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer.
Despite their interest, Bayern is aware that Real Madrid remains the likely destination for the English defender if he leaves Liverpool.
If Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Alexander-Arnold falls short to Real Madrid, it would be another setback for the German club, as Madrid is also eyeing Bayern’s Alphonso Davies. Like Alexander-Arnold, Davies’ contract expires in the summer, and he could leave Bayern on a free transfer if a new deal isn’t agreed upon.
Reports have indicated that Real Madrid sees Davies as a backup option to replace Dani Carvajal, and will only pursue him if they fail to land Alexander-Arnold.
While Mohamed Salah, another Liverpool star whose contract ends this summer, has been vocal about his future, Alexander-Arnold has kept quiet. In a brief update during a September interview with Sky Sports, he explained that his contract negotiations, like previous extensions, would remain private, stating, “I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”
