Young forward Gonzalo Garcia netted the winning goal as Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid moved on to the Club World Cup quarterfinals with a narrow triumph. The breakthrough originated from a precise cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who notched his first assist for the club in only his fourth game.

Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio was exceptional, keeping his team competitive with several key saves, particularly after halftime when Real Madrid started to take control.

The club has also depended on Aurelien Tchouameni as an emergency centre-back throughout the tournament. Although primarily a midfielder, he has adapted well, adjusting his role when required.

Injuries continue to limit Real’s defensive options. David Alaba has made only 14 appearances since returning from an ACL injury suffered in December 2023 and is currently out again. Meanwhile, Eder Militao is still recuperating from the same injury and remains unavailable for the competition.
