Manchester City Set to Spend £150M for Wirtz & Frimpong!, Manchester City is nearing a deal to sign Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for around £150 million. The transfer would significantly boost City’s squad, adding creativity and talent to their midfield and defense
Manchester City is preparing to make a summer transfer bid for Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, with a potential combined fee of approximately £170 million. The reigning Premier League champions, who made significant investments in January, are reportedly positioning themselves to secure the highly sought-after pair, despite competition from other elite European clubs.
Wirtz, a 21-year-old attacking midfielder, is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young players, having recorded 56 goals and 62 assists in 186 matches for Leverkusen. Manchester City views him as a possible successor to Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract is set to expire in the summer. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also reportedly keen on signing Wirtz.
Frimpong, a 24-year-old right wing-back, has been on Manchester City’s radar for a while. The club is considering bringing him back to the Etihad after selling him to Celtic in 2019. Frimpong has since established himself as one of Europe’s most dynamic wing-backs, contributing 28 goals and 43 assists in 175 appearances for Leverkusen. Liverpool is also said to be interested in him as a potential successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Manchester City’s summer transfer strategy is coming together, even as the club faces allegations of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. With the full backing of the board, Pep Guardiola is planning a significant squad revamp, with Wirtz and Frimpong being his top priorities.
