BREAKING NEWS: Alexis Mac Allister Slams Premier League and VAR After Horror Tackle in Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has openly criticized the Premier League and its officiating standards after enduring a dangerous tackle during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby. The Argentine, who was the victim of a reckless challenge, took to social media to voice his anger, stating that the lack of consequences for such tackles endangers players’ careers.
In an angry statement, Mac Allister said:
“I’m terrified to play in the Premier League now! That horrendous tackle on me could’ve ended my career—yet NOTHING was done! This isn’t just about me; my teammates and other teams aren’t safe either. A tackle like that should be an instant red card, but because I play for Liverpool, it’s ignored? The bias in the Premier League and VAR is disgusting! How many careers need to be ruined before they take action? This league is becoming a joke.”
The event, which took place in the first half, saw Everton defender James Tarkowski make a dangerous, studs-up challenge on Mac Allister. Although many anticipated a red card, referee Anthony Taylor only gave a yellow card, a decision that enraged Liverpool players and supporters. Even VAR, which had the opportunity to review the call, chose not to intervene—fueling the ongoing discussion about inconsistent refereeing in the league.
Both Liverpool fans and neutral supporters expressed their anger on social media, with one post stating:
“I was scared for him yesterday! That was a career-ending tackle yet no red card? Absolute disgrace!”
Pundits also weighed in on the issue, with former players urging for tougher regulations to shield players from reckless tackles. The FA and PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) now face pressure to respond, as Mac Allister’s remarks have sparked renewed debate about whether referees are adequately protecting players in the Premier League.
With Liverpool contending for the Premier League title, the club will hope that Mac Allister avoids any serious injuries. However, this latest refereeing controversy could have long-lasting effects on the league’s reputation and player safety going forward.
