Arne Slot Makes Surprise Statement on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Remaining Games for Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Liverpool’s training ground was far from seamless, as tensions heightened following reports that the right-back has agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
The England international has been a key figure in Liverpool’s success under both Jürgen Klopp and now Arne Slot. However, his choice to leave without the club receiving a transfer fee has led to criticism from some Liverpool fans, who feel betrayed by his exit.
A video shared on Liverpool’s official social media platform has added fuel to the fire, depicting an uncomfortable atmosphere as Alexander-Arnold arrived at the training facility. The footage showed a notably awkward handshake between the defender and his teammates. “Trent avoids eye contact, while the expressions of the players around him are cold and distant,” reported the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah seemed in high spirits, laughing and chatting with Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Amid the growing controversy, Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the matter and made an unexpected comment regarding Alexander-Arnold’s involvement in the remaining matches of the season.
“Trent is still a Liverpool player, and he will be treated as such. I don’t care about speculation-what matters is his has given so much to this club, and I expect him to continue performing at the highest level.”
Having been with Liverpool since 2004, when he joined the club as a young academy player, Alexander-Arnold has made 349 appearances since his senior debut in 2016 and has won seven major trophies with the club.
Former Arsenal player Paul Merson also shared his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on Sky Sports: “I think Liverpool fans should be proud of what he’s done. He deserves a new chapter in his career.”
As emotions run high, all eyes will be on how Alexander-Arnold handles his final season at Anfield—and whether he can leave on good terms with both the club and its fans.
