REVEALED: Next Manchester United No.10 Disclosed as Marcus Rashford Nears Summer Exit
Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United may be coming to an end, and if he leaves, one of the club’s most famous shirt numbers will be up for grabs. The 27-year-old forward, who struggled for regular game time under manager Rúben Amorim, was sent on loan to Aston Villa in January.
Despite limited starts for Villa, Rashford has impressed with his performances, providing four assists— all for fellow loanee Marco Asensio. His recent form has also caught the attention of England’s new head coach, Thomas Tuchel, earning him a call-up to the national team for the first time since March 2024.
Despite his recent success at Villa, Rashford is reportedly not part of Amorim’s plans for the upcoming campaign. The Daily Star claims that Manchester United plans to sell the winger on a permanent basis this summer. Rashford is reportedly available for Villa to buy at about £40 million.
Marcus Rashford’s potential departure from Manchester United would indeed make the club’s iconic number 10 shirt available—a jersey steeped in history and worn by several legendary players. Notable figures who have donned the number 10 include:
Denis Law: Known as “The King,” Law scored 237 goals in 404 appearances for United between 1962 and 1973.
Wayne Rooney: United’s all-time leading scorer, Rooney wore the number 10 shirt during his tenure from 2004 to 2017, netting 253 goals in 559 appearances.
Ruud van Nistelrooy: The prolific Dutch striker wore the number 10 from 2001 to 2006, scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances.
