Real Madrid triumphed 3-2 over Leganés in the Copa del Rey quarter-final, yet Carlo Ancelotti was not fully content with his team’s display.
Although they controlled possession, he expressed concern over defensive lapses that led to Leganés scoring twice. He stressed the need for balance and better defense to prevent counterattacks in future matches.
While disappointed with the defense, Ancelotti acknowledged standout individual performances. He pointed out Kylian Mbappé’s increasing influence and his return to scoring, as well as Arda Güler’s creativity and overall contribution, showing confidence in his progress.
The game also sparked some controversy, as Leganés’ coach Borja Jiménez and his players voiced discontent with multiple refereeing decisions they believed favored Real Madrid.
Ancelotti recognized their frustrations but mentioned that both teams had valid reasons to be unhappy with the officiating.
As Real Madrid looks ahead to upcoming games, Ancelotti emphasized the need for defensive improvements. He stressed the significance of teamwork and maintaining intensity to remain competitive in both domestic and international tournaments.
