Here’s a word-for-word paraphrase, keeping the quoted parts intact:
It’s a tough reality to accept — not landing Nico Williams definitely feels like a real “what could have been” situation for Barça.
The club obviously identified something unique in him: blistering speed, inventiveness, strong connection potential with Yamal… he seemed to fit perfectly for what Flick wants. But with the financial obstacles, Athletic holding firm, and Barça still trying to juggle the books, it just wasn’t possible.
Your quote — “made a decision in a hurry that I would have thought wisely if I had the opportunity again” — really captures the vibe. It genuinely seems like that’s how Barça could reflect on this one. With a bit more time, a better setup for talks, or a different order of priorities for the summer, maybe it could’ve happened.
Now the main thing is: Who’s the backup plan? Since Raphinha’s future isn’t certain and Ferran Torres remains hot and cold, Flick’s going to need fresh options if Barça hopes to stay in the fight across competitions.
If you were in Deco’s shoes, who would you be looking at now?
