Manchester City is reportedly making notable progress in its pursuit of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, with the 25-year-old seemingly having agreed to join the Premier League club in the forthcoming summer transfer window. According to reports from Foot Mercato, initial talks between Manchester City and Costa’s representatives have been fruitful, setting the stage for further negotiations to advance.

Jorge Mendes, Costa’s agent, is playing a key role in facilitating these discussions, with ongoing talks aimed at finalizing a deal. However, in order to make the transfer happen, Manchester City would need to trigger Costa’s €75m release clause in his contract with Porto.

The potential acquisition of Costa is closely tied to the future of Ederson, who has had a difficult season in both the Premier League and Champions League. Manchester City’s sporting department has grown increasingly concerned about Ederson’s performances, leading the club to explore the possibility of signing a new goalkeeper to take on the role of first-choice shot-stopper.

If Costa were to join Manchester City, it’s probable that Ederson would leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer transfer window. Costa’s exceptional skills and capabilities make him a highly attractive option for Manchester City, and the club seems prepared to invest substantially to secure his services. With Costa’s potential arrival, the structure of Manchester City’s goalkeeping position could experience a major shift.
