Should Xabi Alonso take over from Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s head coach at the season’s end, he has highlighted three players he hopes to bring in over the summer.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has verified that Ancelotti will exit Madrid after a season that has fallen short in every competition.

Madrid crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal and fell short in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona. The only remaining silverware hopes lie in the Club World Cup this summer or defending their La Liga crown.

But even that remains uncertain, with Barcelona currently enjoying a four-point lead at the summit—making a season without trophies a genuine threat unless Madrid triumphs in the United States.

With Ancelotti’s exit nearly finalized, the focus now shifts to his possible successor, and Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso is emerging as the prime candidate to take charge at the Bernabeu.

Reports suggest that the ex-Madrid midfielder has already earmarked three players he wishes to bring with him to the Spanish giants.

Per Diario AS, Alonso is eager to recruit Martín Zubimendi, Florian Wirtz, and Jonathan Tah should he complete the move to Madrid.

Arsenal have shown significant interest in Zubimendi during this transfer window, though the Gunners have yet to trigger his £50 million release clause.

Wirtz, who currently plays under Alonso in Germany, also appears set to depart, with Bayern Munich now reportedly leading the pursuit of the talented midfielder.

Amid mounting speculation linking him with Madrid, Alonso responded by reiterating that his attention remains firmly on Leverkusen.

**”It’s not a good time to discuss the future,”** Alonso said, with his team currently trailing Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by six points.

**“We’re at a very important moment in the season.**

**”I don’t want to talk about speculation and rumours,”** he continued. **“[I understand] that this is happening, but what’s more important to me is what’s happening right now.”**
