Liverpool
Liverpool’s new goalkeeper attempted to impress while facing AC Milan’s striker — but just wait until you see how that turned out.
Liverpool’s pre-season preparations took an unexpected and bizarre twist when new goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili handed the opposition one of the most bewildering goals fans have seen in years. What should have been a routine clearance spiraled into a chaotic blunder—leaving spectators stunned and the scoreline heading in the wrong direction.
In a puzzling display of flair, Mamardashvili chose to spice up a straightforward back-pass with an audacious flick instead of a safe clearance. The gamble backfired spectacularly, resulting in a disastrous own goal that left his teammates in disbelief and the crowd in shock.
“Unbelievable. You can’t even describe that goal properly—it just… happened,” one fan posted, perfectly capturing the bewilderment sweeping through the Liverpool faithful.
Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, typically praised for his sharp reflexes and calm demeanor, looked visibly shaken as he retrieved the ball from his own net—his expression a mix of shock and frustration. On the sidelines, new manager Arne Slot could only shake his head, clearly aware that moments like these must be addressed before the season truly kicks off.
Though it’s still early in Mamardashvili’s Anfield chapter, this mishap will serve as a key lesson—one he’ll aim not to repeat.
Moral of the moment: Sometimes, playing it safe is the smartest move.
