Josh Lawless Josh Lawless Manchester United fans have identified an issue with Bryan Mbeumo in their opening weekend defeat to Arsenal. The Red Devils lost 1-0 to the Gunners at Old Trafford, with Riccardo Calafiori scoring the only goal of the game from a Declan Rice corner which Altay Bayandir flapped at. There were plenty of encouraging signs in defeat for United, with new signings Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha full of energy and excitement in their competitive debuts. Manager Ruben Amorim liked a lot of what he saw and said that his side had proved they “can win any game in the Premier League” if they perform in the same vein. But while there was plenty of positivity from a United perspective, a potential problem was spotted by fans regarding Mbeumo. The Cameroonian, who scored 20 goals last season, lined up on the right of a front three and looked to cut in one his trusty left foot. The Ivory Coast international came up with big moments in what was collectively a poor campaign for the club last season and has proved to be one of United’s most dangerous players under Amorim. The decision to not start him came as a surprise but having seen what happened when he entered the fray, many fans have started to form an explanation as to why. Plenty online felt that Amad and Mbeumo did not work as a combination as they were too similar in coming in off the right with their left foot and took up the same space. One fan on X commented: “Mbeumo and Amad combo can’t work, please!!!” A second said: “Jeeezzz, I thought I’ve been the only one saying this…bro I start Dalot over Amad at any time at that RWB…immediately Amad came up, we stopped playing wide man.” A third agreed: “Amad and Mbuemo just always want to be in the same spot man.” A fourth stated: “Lots questioning on why Amorim play Dalot instead of Amad before. And now they know why. The difference is there when Dalot overlap at the outside and create space for Mbeumo to cut inside meanwhile Amad always overlaps inside and creates limited space for Mbeumo to cut inside. A final user added: “We looked more balanced with Dalot at RWB. Amad had a good cameo but him and Mbeumo want to cut in and shoot, none of them wants to receive the ball on their right to cross.” Fans felt as though Mbeumo and Amad occupied the same space. Man Utd Fans Spot Bryan Mbeumo Issue During Arsenal Loss That Has Gone Unnoticed
Manchester United fans have pointed out a concern involving Bryan Mbeumo in their defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend.
United were beaten 1-0 by the Gunners at Old Trafford, with Riccardo Calafiori netting the decisive goal after Declan Rice’s corner was misjudged by Altay Bayindir.
Despite the loss, there were encouraging aspects for United, particularly with new signings Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha showing energy and intent in their competitive debuts.
Boss Ruben Amorim praised his team, stating they proved they “can win any game in the Premier League” if they maintain that level of performance.
However, amid the positives, supporters highlighted a possible issue involving Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international, who struck 20 times last campaign, featured on the right of a front three and continually cut inside onto his favoured left foot.

Diogo Dalot began the game at right wing-back before being substituted for the more attack-minded Amad Diallo in the 55th minute.
Amad, who provided key contributions last season and is considered one of United’s most dangerous options under Amorim, was expected to start. But after his introduction, fans quickly realised the reasoning behind the initial decision.
Many observed that Amad and Mbeumo clashed stylistically, both preferring to drift inside from the right onto their left foot, which caused them to take up identical areas.
One supporter on X wrote: “Mbeumo and Amad combo can’t work, please!!!”
A second added: “Thought I was the only one saying this…bro I’ll pick Dalot over Amad at RWB every time…once Amad came on, we stopped using width.”
A third echoed: “Amad and Mbeumo just want to occupy the same spot every time, man.”
A fourth remarked: “People questioned Amorim for starting Dalot instead of Amad. Now they know. Dalot’s overlaps wide create room for Mbeumo to cut in, but Amad also cuts inside, leaving no space.”
Finally, another said: “We looked more balanced with Dalot at RWB. Amad was lively but both he and Mbeumo always want to cut in and shoot — neither wants to go on the outside to cross.”
Fans pointed out how Amad and Mbeumo crowded the same areas. Image: Getty
United will aim to bounce back on Sunday when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage, seeking their first victory of the new season.
