Villarreal Completes Renato Veiga Signing
Renato Veiga has finalized a permanent move from Chelsea to Villarreal, with both clubs announcing a deal valued at €29.5 million, which includes add-ons and a notable sell-on clause.
The 22-year-old Portuguese defender, who joined Chelsea from FC Basel in 2024 for a reported €14 million, will head to La Liga after featuring in 18 matches for the Blues, including a loan stint at Juventus where he made 15 appearances.
The €29.5 million transfer fee marks a record signing for Villarreal.
Veiga, capable of playing as a centre-back, left-back, or defensive midfielder, is expected to strengthen Villarreal’s defense, especially after injuries to key players like Willy Kambwala and Logan Costa.
His transfer follows his time training with Chelsea’s so-called ‘bomb squad’ under manager Enzo Maresca, signaling he was considered surplus to requirements.
Chelsea’s decision to sell Veiga comes after a previous unsuccessful bid from Atletico Madrid, which led the club to explore other targets, including David H
