Manchester United’s search for a new left-back has taken another dramatic twist after former Red Devils defender Patrice Evra reportedly entered the debate and identified an alternative target he believes could be a better option than Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall.

United have been linked with several left-backs as the club continues to strengthen its squad, with Hall reportedly emerging as one of the names under consideration.

However, according to sensational claims circulating online, Evra believes Manchester United should look elsewhere if Newcastle are unwilling to negotiate a deal.

The former United defender is alleged to have offered a blunt assessment of the situation, insisting that his experience in the position gives him a unique perspective on what the club needs.

The reported comments read:

“Everyone is insisting on Lewis Hall, yes, he’s good, but don’t forget that position was my field too. If Newcastle don’t want to sell him, there’s a better option than him.”

The alleged recommendation has immediately sparked debate among supporters, particularly because Evra reportedly believes the alternative target enjoyed a stronger Premier League campaign than Hall.

The report continues with the former France international allegedly saying:

“He had a better Premier League season than him too. If INEOS and Carrick will listen to me, I would recommend him in that position more than Lewis Hall. He’s better than Lewis Hall and will fit Manchester United’s style of play.”

The identity of the player being recommended has created further confusion, however, with the circulating quote appearing to contain a possible name mix-up.

That makes it especially important to treat the alleged statement cautiously until the original source can be established.

Nevertheless, the underlying debate is one Manchester United supporters will find familiar.

The club have been searching for greater quality and depth at left-back, and Hall has been mentioned as a potential solution because of his technical ability, versatility and experience in the Premier League.

A move for Hall would give United a young defender who is comfortable in possession and capable of contributing to attacking phases of play.

But Evra’s reported argument is that Manchester United should not become fixated on one target if Newcastle refuse to sell.

The former United full-back knows exactly what the position demands at Old Trafford. During his successful spell with the club, Evra became one of the most important left-backs in United’s modern history, winning multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League.

His experience could therefore make any recommendation he gives particularly interesting to supporters.

Manchester United’s current recruitment strategy under INEOS is expected to focus heavily on players who can contribute immediately while also fitting the club’s long-term vision.

The ideal left-back would need to possess the athleticism to cope with Premier League attackers, the technical quality to contribute in possession and the tactical intelligence required to operate within Carrick’s system.

That is why the identity of United’s eventual target remains such an important question.

If Newcastle refuse to sell Hall, United may have little choice but to explore alternative options.

The club cannot afford to spend the entire transfer window pursuing a single player if other areas of the squad also require strengthening.

For supporters, the debate is now becoming increasingly interesting.

Is Hall genuinely the best option available, or should United listen to experienced former players such as Evra and explore other Premier League targets?

At this stage, there is no definitive answer.

There is also no verified evidence that Patrice Evra made the quoted comments or officially recommended the player mentioned in the circulating report. Manchester United have not confirmed their preferred left-back target, while Newcastle have not indicated that Hall is available for transfer.

The claims should therefore be treated as speculation until a reliable source confirms them.

Nevertheless, one thing is clear: Manchester United’s left-back position remains an area attracting significant attention, and supporters will be watching closely to see who INEOS and Carrick eventually choose.
