Arsenal Nearing €178m Triple Signing After Shifting Focus From Ideal Striker

sportime 4 days ago | 05 mins

Arsenal are gradually moving away from their pursuit of Mikel Arteta’s preferred striker, with reports suggesting a potentially more dangerous forward is being targeted as part of a €178m triple deal.

With a major summer ahead, Arsenal is determined to finalize Arteta’s squad. They are on track to finish as Premier League runners-up for the third straight season, but despite Liverpool conceding only two more goals than Arsenal, the key difference lies in their attack.

Arsenal has scored 15 fewer goals than Liverpool, and while injuries have had an impact, strengthening positions like Gabriel Martinelli and the forward pairing of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz is considered essential for improvement.

While Alexander Isak has been Arsenal’s primary striker target, Newcastle’s asking price for the Swedish player is more than £130m, with rumors suggesting a price as high as £150m to start discussions. Additionally, Isak is expected to stay at Newcastle if they secure a Champions League spot, with the club currently in fifth place.

As a result, Arsenal is reportedly beginning to accept that Isak is unattainable and are redirecting their focus to signing Viktor Gyokeres, who has impressed in Portugal with Sporting CP. The 26-year-old has scored 85 goals and provided 26 assists in 92 appearances for the team.

Though it’s uncertain whether Gyokeres can replicate this form in the Premier League, Arsenal is willing to take the risk. Gyokeres has a €100m release clause, but sources claim a “verbal agreement” with Sporting could allow him to depart for a significantly lower price, possibly between €65m and €70m, with some reports suggesting €60m could be enough to secure the deal. Arsenal is said to have already begun talks with Gyokeres’ representatives.

Additionally, it is reported that Gyokeres prefers joining Arsenal over potentially reuniting with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

In other transfer developments, Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta has reportedly held talks regarding the potential signing of Nico Williams, a player they have been tracking for two years. Arsenal tried to sign the Spanish international last summer, but Williams decided to remain with Athletic Bilbao for another season. However, Arsenal is now leading the race and is willing to meet his €58m release clause, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

As for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, David Ornstein has stated that while rumors about Real Madrid’s interest in him exist, Arsenal expects to bring the midfielder on board by activating his €60m release clause.

Altogether, Arsenal’s €178m investment could bring them Zubimendi (€60m), Williams (€58m), and Gyokeres (€60m).

Additional Arsenal Update

Arsenal is also reportedly tracking Deportivo La Coruna winger Yeremay Hernandez. Scouts have been sent to observe the 22-year-old, who previously played for Real Madrid’s youth team before moving to Deportivo. Hernandez has enjoyed a successful season, scoring 11 goals and contributing 4 assists in LaLiga 2. Despite Deportivo being in Spain’s second division, they are asking for £30m for Hernandez.
