Mohamed Salah of Liverpool has made another mark in Premier League history during the first half of the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Everton shocked the visitors by taking a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into Wednesday night’s match, thanks to a clever free-kick routine that saw Beto break free and calmly finish past Alisson Becker, sparking wild celebrations at the historic stadium.

However, Liverpool responded quickly, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring a stunning header past Jordan Pickford five minutes later to equalize.

Salah delivered an exquisite cross from the right, allowing Mac Allister to arrive late in the box and head the ball in at the far post.

By providing his career-high 14th assist, Salah added another Premier League record to his ever-growing achievements.

The Egyptian star, whose contract expires this summer, has now become the first player in Premier League history to be directly involved in 22 away goals in a single season.

Salah has been in exceptional form on the road, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists in 13 matches.

As noted by Squawka, the previous record was held by legendary striker Andy Cole, who contributed to 21 goals for Newcastle in the 1993/94 season.

But Salah quickly surpassed that mark, scoring Liverpool’s second goal against Everton.

There are still plenty of games remaining for Salah to further increase his tally in what could turn out to be his best individual season with Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017.

Salah is currently the Premier League’s top assist provider this season, with Bukayo Saka and Antonee Robinson trailing him with 10 each – and across all competitions, the former Chelsea player has an astonishing 49 goal contributions.

A former Liverpool teammate has provided insight into Salah’s contract situation, suggesting that Liverpool may risk losing Salah, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, for free this summer. Dejan Lovren, a close friend and former teammate, explained why Salah hasn’t signed a new deal yet.

“Salah feels there are things missing from the club’s side, and I hope this gets resolved soon. But at the moment, he’s closer to leaving than staying,” he told WinWin.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that the club doesn’t respect him enough, or at least not as much as he thinks he deserves. But that’s a separate issue, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

“He loves Liverpool, by the way. He loves it a lot, and he wants to stay, which is the most important part. Perhaps he sees himself retiring there.”
