Manchester United has secured a deal to bring Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, as reported.

The club’s management left Ruben Amorim with major challenges for the remainder of the season by not acquiring a new forward.

The new manager’s relationship with key player Marcus Rashford has soured, and Rashford is currently on loan at Aston Villa. The available strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled to make an impact. Despite this, INEOS only brought in a defender during the winter transfer window.

Manchester United have reached an agreement for Viktor Gyokeres

According to Fichajes, the club’s management did not make a high-profile signing in January because Gyokeres’s transfer was “already set” for the summer window.

Reports suggest that Manchester United has secured the Sweden international for the upcoming season, finalizing terms with Sporting to bring their star forward to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 26-year-old is considered one of the most lethal forwards in Europe, having scored 34 goals in as many games across all competitions this season.

He moved to Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly became a key figure in Amorim’s system, thanks to his impressive speed and finishing ability.

Amorim’s departure from Sporting has not affected Gyokeres, who remains in the limelight due to his goal-scoring feats for the Lions.

The Swedish striker’s contract with Sporting runs until the summer of 2028, with a release clause set at €100 million.

However, reports indicate that the Portuguese club has shown a “willingness to negotiate” a transfer fee around €70 million to facilitate his departure.

United sees Gyokeres as a player who can “lead the project” under Amorim. Given their successful partnership in Portugal, there’s hope it can be replicated in England.

That said, with ongoing concerns about United’s transfer plans due to financial fair play restrictions, the claim of a summer move should be taken with caution at this point in the season.
