Manchester United have an agreement in place to bring Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, according to reports.

The club’s hierarchy left Ruben Amorim with significant challenges for the rest of the campaign by not acquiring a new forward.

The new manager had a falling-out with the team’s key player, Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa. His available strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled to impress. Despite this, INEOS only added a defender during the winter transfer window.

As per Fichajes, the club’s officials did not bring in a high-profile signing in January because Gyokeres’s move was “already on track” for the summer window.

Reports indicate that the club has secured the Sweden international for the next campaign, finalizing terms with Sporting to bring their star striker to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 26-year-old is regarded as one of the most clinical forwards in Europe, having netted 34 goals in as many matches across all competitions this season.

The striker made the switch to Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly became an essential figure in Amorim’s system, thanks to his remarkable speed and finishing skills.

Amorim’s exit from Sporting has not hindered Gyokeres, who remains in the spotlight due to his goal-scoring exploits for the Lions.

The Swedish forward is under contract with the club until the summer of 2028, with a release clause set at €100 million.

However, reports suggest that the Portuguese club have expressed their “willingness to negotiate” a transfer fee in the region of €70 million to facilitate his departure.

United view Gyokeres as someone who can “lead the project” under Amorim. Given their highly productive collaboration in Portugal, there is reason to believe it could be replicated in England.

That said, with ongoing doubts surrounding United’s transfer activity due to financial fair play constraints, the claim of a summer deal should be approached with caution at this stage of the season.
