The need for a lethal goalscorer at Manchester United is quite clear when you examine the stats of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee this season.

While the Danish player has netted only eight goals, the Dutch forward has six. The former Atalanta prodigy recently ended his 99-day goalless streak in the Premier League, while the recent summer recruit is more accustomed to playing as an attacking midfielder than in a central forward role.

This is why Ruben Amorim has made signing a striker his top priority as the transfer window approaches. He was hoping to bring Viktor Gyokeres back, but the Swedish striker is focused on playing in the Champions League, a prospect that may not be available at Old Trafford next season.

As a result, Victor Osimhen of Napoli, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has moved to the top of the list, with the Nigerian striker making a significant impact in the Turkish league.

Osimhen meets United’s requirements

The 26-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided five assists, and Napoli are expected to let him go once the season ends. Galatasaray would love to retain him, but they would struggle to meet Napoli’s asking price and also cover the striker’s massive wages.

Even Manchester United would find it difficult to meet the Serie A club’s demands, which is why several rumors suggest a swap deal involving Hojlund moving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

However, Laurie Whitwell, a respected journalist from The Athletic, shared an intriguing perspective on the matter. He mentioned on the Inside United podcast (via Givemesport) that Alejandro Garnacho could be the United player involved in the deal.

The Argentine was a target for the Naples-based club in January, but they refused to meet the €55 million asking price for the 20-year-old, which United values highly.

Swap deal involving Garnacho?

Antonio Conte is still searching for a replacement for Kvicha Kvaratshkhelia, and Garnacho, a product of United’s Carrington academy, could be included in a swap deal to secure Osimhen.

“In terms of what they want from a striker, I think Osimhen would fit that bill. So I wonder what happens there. The only thing is, Napoli, how much would they want for him?

And would some kind of transfer swap make sense? Obviously, they’ve been interested in Alejandro Garnacho already. I wouldn’t rule out something like that potentially happening.”

So, would Amorim consider allowing the young talent to leave? He had fought hard with INEOS to keep him during the winter transfer window. A lot can change between now and the season’s end. This is certainly a saga worth watching closely.
