The requirement for a deadly goalscorer at Manchester United is unmistakably clear when you analyze the statistics of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee this season. Published 2 weeks ago on March 23, 2025, by admin

While the Danish player has scored just eight goals, the Dutch forward has netted six. The former Atalanta talent recently broke his 99-day goalless streak in the Premier League, while the recent summer addition is more familiar with playing as an attacking midfielder than a central forward.

For this reason, Ruben Amorim has prioritized signing a striker as the transfer window nears. He had hoped to bring Viktor Gyokeres back, but the Swedish striker is keen on playing in the Champions League, an opportunity that may not be available at Old Trafford next season.

Consequently, Victor Osimhen of Napoli, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has risen to the top of the list, with the Nigerian striker making a substantial impact in the Turkish league.

Osimhen fulfills United’s needs

The 26-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided five assists, and Napoli is expected to let him go once the season concludes. Galatasaray would love to retain him, but they would struggle to meet Napoli’s asking price and also cover the striker’s substantial wages.

Even Manchester United would find it challenging to meet the Serie A club’s demands, which is why several rumors indicate a swap deal involving Hojlund moving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

However, Laurie Whitwell, a respected journalist from The Athletic, shared an interesting perspective on the situation. He stated on the Inside United podcast (via Givemesport) that Alejandro Garnacho could be the United player involved in the deal.

The Argentine was a target for the Naples-based club in January, but they declined to meet the €55 million asking price for the 20-year-old, which United values highly.

Swap deal involving Garnacho?

Antonio Conte is still looking for a replacement for Kvicha Kvaratshkhelia, and Garnacho, a product of United’s Carrington academy, could be included in a swap deal to secure Osimhen.

“In terms of what they want from a striker, I think Osimhen would fit that bill. So I wonder what happens there. The only thing is, Napoli, how much would they want for him?

And would some kind of transfer swap make sense? Obviously, they’ve been interested in Alejandro Garnacho already. I wouldn’t rule out something like that potentially happening.”

So, would Amorim consider allowing the young talent to leave? He had fought hard with INEOS to keep him during the winter transfer window. A lot can change between now and the season’s end. This is certainly a saga worth following closely.
