Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has expressed that Mohamed Salah’s possible departure would be a significant blow to the team. Salah, aged 32, who signed his current deal in 2022, is now in the final year of his contract. Although there were rumors about his potential exit in the summer, Salah remained at Anfield, but talks about a contract extension have reportedly stalled. Despite the uncertainty regarding his future, Salah has started the season strongly, scoring in all three of Liverpool’s matches, which has helped the team secure second place in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City on goal difference.

Diaz, who netted twice in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United, was assisted by Salah on both occasions. In an interview with Telemundo, Diaz spoke about the possibility of Salah leaving, as reported by the Daily Mail:

“It would be tough for us and for Liverpool. It will hurt us a lot. He still has a year left to think about it, and it’s not an easy decision. He always gives his best, right from the beginning. Losing such an important player would be very difficult for us. However, it’s his choice, and we respect that, but I hope he stays.”

Following the match at Old Trafford, Salah himself suggested that it could have been his last appearance at the stadium, telling Sky Sports (via the Daily Mail):

“I was on my way to the game thinking, ‘this might be my last time (at Old Trafford).’ Nobody from the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract. It’s not in my hands; it’s up to the club. We’ll have to wait and see.”

He added, “As everyone knows, it’s my final year here. I just want to enjoy it without thinking too much about my contract. Right now, I feel free to focus on football, and we’ll see what the future holds.”

Salah joined Liverpool in the summer of 2017 and has since become one of the club’s most essential players.

**Mohamed Salah’s Record at Liverpool**

Since joining Liverpool seven years ago, Salah has had an outstanding career at the club. In 352 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 214 goals and provided 92 assists. The Egyptian forward has won every major trophy with Liverpool, except the UEFA Europa League.

Last season, Salah contributed 25 goals and 14 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, marking the final campaign under legendary manager Jürgen Klopp. His most recent goal at Old Trafford also equaled Alan Shearer’s record for the most goals (10) scored by a player in away games against a single Premier League team.
