Barcelona and Inter Milan played out one of the most memorable Champions League matches in recent years, ending 3-3 in the opening leg of their semi-final meeting. Early finishes by Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries gave the Italian side a surprise lead, but Hansi Flick’s squad responded with goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres to bring things level before the break. Dumfries added another after half-time, but a Yann Sommer own goal soon after ensured the game concluded evenly.

Given their strong form this campaign, many anticipated Barcelona to dominate, but Inter broke the deadlock in under a minute. A delivery into Barcelona’s box found Thuram, who executed a remarkable backheel to beat Szczesny.

Shortly before the 20-minute mark, Dumfries made it two with a spectacular goal. After a corner reached him via a flick, he struck an overhead kick that found the net, stunning the home side. Barcelona responded quickly, and Yamal proved why he’s considered the top teenage talent in the sport with a fantastic solo run, beating several Inter players before firing in off the post.

That goal reignited the home team’s momentum, and just before the break, Torres netted the equaliser. A ball played over to Raphinha was headed into Torres’ path, and he converted from close range past Sommer. Dumfries headed in again after the interval, appearing to give Inter the edge, but Raphinha’s long-range shot struck the bar, rebounded off Sommer, and crossed the line to tie the match again.

From there, Barcelona pressed hard for a winning goal to take into the return leg, but Inter stood firm to keep the tie balanced going into the second encounter in Italy.
