**Kevin De Bruyne’s Liverpool ambition, Salah’s comment, and City’s frustration**

There has been speculation about Kevin De Bruyne possibly making a high-profile move to Liverpool once his stint at Manchester City ends — and it seems he may be open to the idea.

A transfer to Liverpool could allow Kevin De Bruyne to realise a lifelong ambition. The Belgian playmaker is expected to part ways with Manchester City after this season, as he has not been offered a contract extension.

He’s made it clear he’s unhappy with how he’s been treated at City, voicing his frustrations openly after their recent game at Goodison Park, even though club officials Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain were nearby. While there’s ongoing interest from the MLS and Premier League side Aston Villa, new possible destinations have come up in the last day.

Italian outlets suggest Napoli have shown interest, and reports claim Liverpool have put forward a contract proposal to bring him to Anfield — although the club has downplayed those suggestions. However, joining Liverpool would fulfill a childhood dream for De Bruyne, who has previously expressed fondness for the club.

**“My favourite club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Michael Owen,”** De Bruyne once said at age 11 while playing for Genk. **“And I would love to play there one day.”**

He reinforced that sentiment in 2019 when asked about his connection to Liverpool. He explained: **”I was a Liverpool fan. My family that live in England were all Liverpool supporters so I was, too. I loved Michael Owen because I was really small like him and quick, too. I compared myself to him at the time. I liked [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldinho too – those really skilful players.”**

Although De Bruyne has long been a Liverpool supporter, it seems one of the club’s current stars would welcome him as a teammate. During an earlier period at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah shared that De Bruyne was among the players he’d love to play alongside.

He said: **“Messi or Ronaldo, but if I pick one in the Premier League then I’d choose Kevin [De Bruyne]. He has vision, I’m sure he can find me anywhere with the ball so I would say Messi, Ronaldo and then Kevin.**

**”He’s a great player, the whole team (City) is great. But I just try to play my game and not focus on anyone else.”**

No matter where he ends up, De Bruyne has acknowledged the need for conversations with both his current and prospective teams about playing in this summer’s Club World Cup. His contract is due to end in the middle of the tournament — and he’s still uncertain about his participation.

When asked about attending the Club World Cup, he responded: **“I don’t know. For me, it will depend on whatever happens in the future, you know, depending on what team I’ll go to and what competition I’ll play in.**

**“Also, if the new team doesn’t want me to play and doesn’t want to risk whatever happens. I haven’t really spoken to City about it, so I don’t know. If they want to have a conversation, we can. But I’m not sure about this.”**
