**Arsenal in Advanced Talks to Land £84m Striker Viktor Gyökeres Ahead of Rivals**
Arsenal is said to be nearing the completion of a transfer for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres, moving ahead of competition from Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester United. The Swedish attacker, who has a release fee of £84 million, scored 50 times across all competitions last season and has become one of the most in-demand strikers across Europe.
The North London side has reportedly offered Gyökeres a five-year deal, with a weekly salary of approximately £135,000 — amounting to around £9 million each year. Arsenal’s recently appointed sporting director, Andrea Berta, is reportedly playing a key role in advancing the deal and is giving firm backing to head coach Mikel Arteta.
Arteta’s position remains under examination after another campaign without a trophy. Even with an impressive tally of 89 points, Arsenal again trailed behind a dominant Manchester City. The team’s latest piece of silverware remains the 2020 FA Cup, secured early in Arteta’s time in charge.
Sky Sports expert Gary Neville applauded the club’s ongoing belief in Arteta, describing it as uncommon in today’s game. He highlighted the strides Arsenal has taken, including reaching the Champions League semi-finals, and noted the manager continues to enjoy significant backing from the club hierarchy and supporters.
Gyökeres is believed to be enthusiastic about a return to English football, and Arsenal is presently in front in the race. Nonetheless, the stakes are rising for Arteta and the club’s transfer strategy to finally produce meaningful achievements after several seasons without major
silverware.
