The final conversation between Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother, moments before their tragic car accident, has emerged online, leaving football fans as whole worldwide in deep shock.
The football world is in shock following the devastating death of Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, who lost his life along with his brother André Silva in a terrible car crash on July 3, 2025, in Zamora, Spain.
At 28 years old, Jota had recently tied the knot with his longtime partner Rute Cardoso on June 22. He and André were traveling in a Lamborghini on the A-52 motorway when the car swerved off the road and caught fire, instantly killing both men, as reported by Spanish sources Marca and Zamora24horas.
A heartbreaking new report has emerged revealing the last exchange between the two brothers, shared through a leaked audio clip now circulating online, deepening the sorrow felt by fans across the globe.
The recording, said to have been made shortly before the collision, features a cheerful back-and-forth as they joked about Diogo’s recent wedding and André’s upcoming football season with Portuguese second-division side Penafiel.
Diogo, sounding upbeat, joked with André about his haircut, saying, “Mate, you’re looking sharp for training—trying to impress the gaffer?” To which André replied with a laugh, “Says the guy who’s still glowing from his wedding!” Those close to the family described the exchange as a reflection of their strong relationship. They also talked briefly about an upcoming family trip to Portugal, with Diogo looking forward to taking his three kids to the beach.
Tragically, the audio ends suddenly, just before the crash took place at 12:30 am near Palacios de Sanabria, according to the Spanish Civil Guard.
The cause of the accident is believed to be a tire blowout during an overtaking maneuver, based on information from *The Standard*, plunging the football community into mourning.
Liverpool released a statement saying: “We are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, André.”
The Portuguese Football Federation described the deaths as an “irreparable loss,” highlighting Diogo’s 49 international appearances and 14 goals, including his contribution to their recent Nations League victory.
Messages of condolence have flooded in, with Gary Neville writing on X, “Heartbreaking news on Diogo Jota and his brother. All my love to his family,” while Jamie Carragher focused on the loss felt by Jota’s wife and children.
Jota, who transferred to Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 for £41 million, scored 65 times in 182 matches, including nine goals in the title-winning 2024/25 Premier League season. André, aged 26, was an emerging talent at Penafiel, and their mutual love for the game strengthened their connection.
Supporters have been laying flowers at Anfield, and UEFA has announced a minute of silence before Portugal’s Women’s Euro 2025 fixture. Social media is filled with mourning messages—@LFC4Ever wrote, “Retire No. 20 for Diogo,” while @FootyFanatic shared, “Losing both brothers is unimaginable.” Occurring just 11 days after Jota’s wedding, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of life’s fragility, leaving fans from Liverpool, Portugal,
and beyond deeply grieved.
