It’s Not in Man United’s Hands” — Fabrizio Romano Reveals Real Reason Behind Bryan Mbeumo Transfer Delay
Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo remains *very much active*, though those awaiting an *official confirmation* may need to exercise some patience — and it’s *not due to any lack of effort* from the Old Trafford side.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided insight into what’s *causing the holdup* in landing the 25-year-old Brentford forward, noting that the most recent discussions are being *delayed by elements beyond Manchester United’s influence*. United aim to make Mbeumo their third recruit of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and emerging talent Diego Leon. However, Brentford have turned down two official proposals — the initial worth £55 million, and a second that factored in £7.5 million through add-ons.
Although some believed United were being slow to act, Fabrizio Romano clarified that Brentford are the party *slowing progress*. In his newsletter for GiveMeSport, Romano stated:
> “United are still working on it, but the current delays are mostly on Brentford’s side. They’ve had a busy few days managing other player negotiations and squad plans.”
Romano detailed that Brentford are currently handling several negotiations at once, including turning down a new offer from Nottingham Forest for Yoane Wissa and finalising Christian Nørgaard’s transfer to Arsenal. Additionally, the club is preparing to confirm the signing of ex-Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who has opted not to remain at Ajax.
This flurry of activity has made it challenging for Brentford to give United their full attention on Mbeumo’s situation.
Despite the delay, Romano emphasized the transfer remains *“on,”* with United still optimistic that a deal can be concluded before they depart for their U.S. pre-season tour later in July.
It’s not only supporters feeling the strain — reports indicate that Bryan Mbeumo himself is starting to feel *impatient* as the process drags. He is anticipated to rejoin Brentford training next week, and his return to England could potentially help speed up the talks.
Mbeumo is considered an essential figure in Rúben Amorim’s refreshed attacking plans, slated to line up with Cunha and possibly Joshua Zirkzee in a revamped forward trio. United are eager to secure Mbeumo’s signature before pre-season games commence to allow for proper integration into the squad ahead of the Premier League opener.
With Amorim eager to assemble his core offensive lineup early, United are preparing what could be a third — and possibly final — proposal. Insiders believe this offer could narrow the gap between the two clubs’ positions.
Supporters will be hoping that Mbeumo’s return to the UK next week acts as a catalyst to finally seal the transfer, bringing one of the Premier League’s most *underrated wide men* to Manchester.
