Stephen Torpey Appointed Manchester United Academy Director

Manchester United have officially announced Stephen Torpey as their new Academy Director, taking over from Nick Cox, who is leaving to become Technical Director at Everton.

Torpey, formerly Brentford’s Academy Director, will assume the role in the coming months after completing a period of gardening leave.

Appointment Confirmation: Manchester United have formally confirmed Stephen Torpey as the new Academy Director, a role he will take on following a transition period.

Previous Role: Torpey had been Brentford’s Academy Director since January 2024, playing a key part in redeveloping the Academy, guiding its return to Category Two status, and reintroducing age groups from under-9 to under-16.

Career Background: Before Brentford, Torpey spent nine and a half years at Manchester City in various positions, including Head of Coaching for the U15-U23 squads, contributing to the development of players such as Cole Palmer, James McAtee, and Rico Lewis.

Connection to United: This appointment reunites Torpey with Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s Director of Football, who previously collaborated with him at Manchester city.
