“Sesko is Not the One”: Carragher’s Brutal Reality Check

The hype surrounding Benjamin Šeško has reached fever pitch after the Slovenian striker came off the bench to seal a massive 3-1 win over Aston Villa this Sunday. But while the Old Trafford faithful are singing the name of their new £74m forward, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stepped in to throw cold water on the celebrations.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher delivered a stinging assessment of the “Sesko Mania” currently sweeping the league. According to the pundit, while Sesko is a “fantastic talent,” he is not the reason Michael Carrick’s side is suddenly the most feared team in England.

“Šeško is not the one defining their season — it’s this particular player,” Carragher stated firmly. “Even if Manchester United go on to win the league today, there’s no way I’ll be praising Benjamin Šeško as the main man. He’s the finisher, but he’s not the architect.”

The “Braino” Era: Why Bruno is in a “League of His Own”

The player Carragher is actually obsessing over? Bruno Fernandes. The United captain produced a masterclass against Villa, recording two world-class assists to take his Premier League season tally to a staggering 16 assists—shattering the club record previously held by David Beckham.

Carragher, who has been critical of Fernandes in the past, performed a dramatic U-turn, even coining a new nickname for the Portuguese superstar alongside Thierry Henry.

“My name for him now — and you guys are going to love it — is ‘Braino’ Fernandes,” Carragher revealed. “This guy thinks. He doesn’t just play football, he thinks it. He is in a league of his own right now. What he’s doing in this Carrick system is the best football I’ve seen from a midfielder in years.”

“Sesko is Not the Revelation”: The Stats That Back Carra

Carragher’s argument centers on the fact that while Šeško has been an incredible “supersub” and is now forcing his way into the XI, it is Fernandes who has created the most chances in the entire Premier League this season.

SESKO IS NOT THE REVELATION OF MAN UNITED 📌📌📌

“People see the goals and they get excited,” Carragher continued. “But look at the 71st minute against Villa. That through-ball for Matheus Cunha? That is genius. That is 100 assists for the club. You can put any striker in that position and they score. Bruno is the engine, the brain, and the heart.”

Fans Divided: “Is Carra Disrespecting Sesko?”

The comments have sparked a fierce debate among the Red Devils’ support. While no one denies Bruno’s greatness, many feel Sesko’s arrival has been the “missing piece” that allowed Fernandes to thrive.

• “Carragher just can’t admit a young United striker is world-class. Sesko’s movement is what gives Bruno the space!” one fan tweeted.

• “He’s right though. Bruno is playing like prime De Bruyne right now. 16 assists with 8 games left is insane,” added another.

With Michael Carrick winning seven of his last nine games, the “Carrick-Bruno” partnership is being hailed as the tactical masterstroke of the 2025/26 season.

What’s Next? The Hunt for the All-Time Assist Record

With 16 assists already in the bag, Fernandes is now chasing the all-time Premier League record of 20 (shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne). If “Braino” reaches that milestone, even Carragher admits he might have to put him in the conversation for the greatest midfielder in the league’s history.

For now, the message is clear: Stop watching the goalscorer, and start watching the man with the plan.
