A New Chapter: “The Bond is Unbreakable”

The “Anfield Family” has witnessed many emotional homecomings, but none quite as “poignant” as the one that took place at the AXA Training Centre this week. Liverpool F.C. has officially confirmed that Dinis Jota, the five-year-old son of the late Portuguese legend Diogo Jota, has joined the club’s prestigious youth academy.

The move marks a “symbolic milestone” for the club and the Jota family. Diogo, who tragically passed away in July 2025 following a car accident in Spain just weeks after winning the Premier League title, remains a “towering figure” in the hearts of the fans. Now, his eldest son is set to follow in those “legendary footsteps.”

The “Forever 20” Legacy: More Than Just Football

The signing is the latest step in Liverpool’s “unprecedented commitment” to the Jota family. Under the guidance of Arne Slot and the FSG board, the club has gone above and beyond to support Diogo’s widow, Rute Cardoso, and their three children: Dinis, Duarte, and their younger daughter.

• Contract Honor: The club famously honored Diogo’s contract in full following his passing.

• Retired Shirt: The iconic No. 20 jersey has been permanently retired across all levels of the club.

• Support System: Dinis and his brother Duarte have been frequent guests of honor at Anfield, often seen as mascots during “emotional tributes” like the Wolves fixture in December.

Following the Footsteps: From Gondomar to Anfield

While Dinis is still at the “very start” of his journey, the parallels are already being drawn. Diogo Jota began his own career at age nine with Gondomar S.C. in Portugal—an academy that was renamed in his honor following his death.

By bringing Dinis into the Liverpool setup at such a young age, the club is ensuring he receives the “world-class training and education” that his father would have wanted. The Academy staff are reportedly focused on providing a “pressure-free environment” where Dinis can fall in love with the game, just as the “Portuguese Powerhouse” did.

Fans React: “He’s One of Our Own!”

The news has sparked a “massive outpouring” of love from Liverpool fans worldwide, who see this as the ultimate tribute to a player who gave everything for the badge.

• “Seeing a Jota back in a Liverpool kit, even at the academy level, brings a tear to the eye. We will protect this kid at all costs!” one fan tweeted.

• “This is why Liverpool is the greatest club in the world. We don’t just sign players; we take care of families. Welcome home, Dinis!” added another.

What’s Next? The “Jota Grassroots” Project

Alongside Dinis’s integration into the academy, the club is set to launch the “Jota Grassroots” programme—a new initiative funded by the club to provide coaching and equipment to underprivileged young players in both Liverpool and Porto.
