BREAKING NEWS: Mohamed Salah Completes Shock U-Turn — Liverpool Legend Withdraws Exit Decision After Arne Slot Departure.

In one of the most dramatic and emotionally charged reversals in modern football history, Mohamed Salah has stunned the entire sporting world this morning. Just hours after Liverpool officially confirmed the departure of Arne Slot, the Egyptian King — who had publicly and formally announced his intention to leave Anfield — has done the unthinkable. He is staying.

The news has detonated like a bombshell across social media, in living rooms from Cairo to Copenhagen, and in every corner of the footballing globe. After months of acrimony, public fallouts, dressing room tension, and a tearful goodbye farewell mosaic already being planned on the Kop, Mohamed Salah has torn up his exit script and chosen to fight for the badge he has worn for nine extraordinary years.

The Exit That Shocked the World

To fully appreciate the magnitude of this reversal, one must first retrace the bitter road that led to it. On March 24, 2026, Liverpool officially confirmed that Salah would leave at the end of the 2025-26 season, closing the book on one of the most important eras in modern Liverpool history. The club confirmed Salah had reached an agreement to end his stay after nine years at Anfield — a change of course after a fresh contract extension and months of tension around his role and future.

The wounds ran deep. Salah had accused the club of “being thrown under the bus” — a bombshell statement that followed a period in which he was named as a substitute for three straight games and was not used at all as Liverpool drew with both West Ham and Leeds. “I’ve done so much for this club,” Salah told reporters. “To be on the bench — I don’t know why. I feel like the club is throwing me under the bus.”

The public feud with Slot escalated from a simmering disagreement into a full-blown civil war. Salah delivered a blistering attack on Liverpool manager Arne Slot that appeared designed to further destabilise the Dutchman’s position at Anfield, calling out the team’s declining style and standards following Liverpool’s 4-2 loss at Aston Villa. He called for the return of the “heavy metal attacking football” that had made Liverpool the most feared team in Europe under Jurgen Klopp — a barely veiled condemnation of everything Slot stood for.

Liverpool had not won a single game that Salah sat out in 2026, and Slot’s decision to bench him for both legs of the Champions League quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain was made to look utterly ridiculous — with no Red creating more chances against Luis Enrique’s side despite the forward only being on the pitch for 59 of the 180 minutes played.

The farewell was already being choreographed. A mosaic on the Kop, a guard of honour, a presentation ceremony after the final whistle. Liverpool’s greatest modern goalscorer was heading for the exit door — and everybody knew it.

The Condition Salah Always Had

Yet even as the farewell tour gathered momentum, those closest to the situation quietly sensed a door had not been fully closed. A report from The Athletic revealed that “not so long ago, some of Salah’s associates in Egypt were quietly suggesting he had not totally given up on the idea of remaining at Liverpool.”

The reason was an open secret. Reports confirmed that Salah was open to making a U-turn on his future at Liverpool — but only on two very specific conditions. Chief among them was the departure of the man who had made his final season at Anfield a misery: Arne Slot. The other was a guarantee that the club would return to the attacking, winning identity that defined Liverpool’s greatest years.

A reliable publication insisted that Slot’s potential sacking meant Mohamed Salah could stay at Anfield. The report noted a sizeable chunk of Liverpool’s squad had either liked or commented positively on Salah’s posts criticising the manager — indicating the Egyptian had the dressing room firmly on his side. A Sky Sports poll also revealed a stunning 94 percent of Liverpool fans had taken Salah’s side in his feud with Slot.

The Moment Everything Changed

This morning, those conditions were met. Arne Slot was gone. And within hours, Salah moved.

His decision to formally withdraw his exit announcement and declare his intention to remain at Liverpool next season is nothing short of seismic. For a player who had scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for the club, who had been honoured with a send-off mosaic, and whose mutual contract termination had already been agreed with the club, to reverse course entirely is without precedent in Premier League history.

Salah had previously addressed his decision to leave, admitting: “I took time to change the decision, but things weren’t going in the right direction, so I decided in the end — you know what, this is the right thing for me to do.” Now, with the source of that discontent removed, everything has changed again.

What Salah’s Stay Means for Liverpool

The timing could not be more significant. Liverpool are already navigating a summer of profound change. Ibrahima Konate has decided to leave as a free agent, Andy Robertson is Tottenham-bound, and the club had been bracing itself for a rebuild of historic proportions.

The arrival of Andoni Iraola — now the overwhelming favourite to take the managerial reins at Anfield — is expected to create exactly the kind of environment in which Salah thrives. Iraola has been described as someone who can restore the high-intensity, front-foot football that Salah himself publicly demanded, with the Spaniard’s pressing-based philosophy at Bournemouth drawing consistent comparisons to the Klopp era that brought Liverpool their greatest modern successes.

For FSG, Salah’s reversal is the best possible news they could have received on what is already a historic day. They now have the realistic prospect of entering next season not just with a new manager who excites the fanbase, but with the club’s most iconic modern player still leading the line.

For Liverpool supporters, this is the summer that suddenly became extraordinary. The king is not leaving. Anfield’s greatest goalscorer has looked at the new era being built around him — and decided he wants to be part of it.

Mohamed Salah is staying. And if the look in his eyes is anything to go by, he has something left to prove.
