Liverpool fans are seriously concerned after Arne Slot drops update on Federico Chiesa
The Italian winger joined Liverpool from Juventus during the summer but has only featured in four matches for his new team.
After making his debut start in a Carabao Cup match against West Ham, he sustained a muscle injury and was sidelined for three months.
Chiesa’s most recent outing was a 45-minute appearance against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last month, and he has been named as a substitute in three of the club’s last four games.
His streak of substitute appearances continued into the FA Cup third round match against Accrington Stanley, with some Liverpool fans expecting him to start in order to regain match fitness.
However, Slot chose to start 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha on the left wing, leaving Chiesa once again on the bench.
Chiesa later entered the match as a substitute at halftime, impressing fans before scoring in the second half of a 4-0 win.
Despite this, the manager’s comments about Chiesa’s playing time raised concerns among supporters regarding his future at the club.
He said: “Not just about Federico’s playing time, but about others as well. We will see in the coming weeks and months if he can help us, as things are going to get even more challenging.”
These remarks have led to rumors that Chiesa might leave Liverpool as soon as January, though fans are now urging Slot to retain him at Anfield following his performance against Accrington.
One supporter commented: “Slot should really trust Chiesa more now. He’d perform even better with better players around him. He can play on either side, not just as backup to Mo.”
Another said: “I’m happy for Chiesa and that goal. I hope Slot gives him more opportunities.”
A third added: “What a strike from Chiesa, give him more playing time.”
A fourth noted: “Chiesa does more than Nunez and still isn’t getting a chance.”
And a fifth remarked: “Was I wrong about Chiesa? He deserves more playing time!”
