Bruno Fernandes has revealed What ‘Upset’ him in Manchester United’s Draw Against Liverpool
Bruno Fernandes expressed his frustration after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, despite the team putting in one of their best performances this season. He was upset that they don’t maintain such high levels of play more consistently.
The match followed United’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Newcastle at home. Many expected Liverpool, the league leaders, to dominate, but United fought hard and earned a draw in an exciting game.
United started strong, holding off Liverpool’s attack in the first half. After the break, Lisandro Martinez put United ahead with a powerful shot inside the penalty area. However, Liverpool quickly responded, with Cody Gakpo leveling the score at 1-1. Shortly after, Matthijs de Ligt gave away a penalty for a handball, and Mohamed Salah converted to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead.
United didn’t back down. With just 10 minutes remaining, Amad Diallo scored the equalizer, securing a valuable point for United.
After the match, Fernandes, named Man of the Match, shared his thoughts in an interview with Sky Sports.
“The league table reflects the reality. We’ve dropped too many points this season,” Fernandes said. “Even today, we can’t be satisfied with a draw because we need points more than Liverpool.”
He added, “It’s a good result, and we could have won in the end. But I’m frustrated because if we can perform like this against Liverpool, the best team in the league, why can’t we do it every week?”
Fernandes emphasized the need for the team to maintain this high level of play. “We need to take pride in our performances,” he said. “What we showed today must happen in every match. This isn’t enough for us.”
When asked about the team’s inconsistency, Fernandes admitted he didn’t have an answer. “We have the potential, but it’s not showing up every week,” he said. “Today, it finally did, and now we need to keep that momentum going.”
Fernandes also spoke about their upcoming fixtures, including a challenging FA Cup match against Arsenal.
“We aim to reach the FA Cup final again, so we need to play like this in every game,” he said. However, he cautioned that the team shouldn’t become complacent after this performance.
“I wasn’t concerned about everyone giving their best today because it’s Liverpool. Everyone wants to perform well in big games,” Fernandes explained. “But I’m more concerned about our next match, like against Southampton. We can’t assume that today’s performance is enough. Every match will be tough, and we must keep pushing.”
Manchester United’s performance against Liverpool showcased their potential, but Fernandes’ remarks highlight a major issue—they can’t maintain this level of play regularly.
To achieve their goals this season, United must bring this energy and commitment to every match. Fernandes has delivered a clear message to his teammates: consistency is key to success.
